LEADING EDGE for Transportation & Construction - Denver

Get prepared to work on the $1.2 billion CDOT Central 70 Project! We invite small businesses in the highway construction industry to participate in a highly customized, interactive business planning course that will set you up for success. For the first time ever, this program can be FREE for you thanks to the CDOT scholarship program.

LEADING EDGE for Transportation & Construction is an eight-week course presented by Connect2DOT designed to help business owners in highway design and construction how to become more competitive and successful in the transportation industry. The course is designed to help you determine the best growth strategy for your business to successfully perform on projects with the CDOT and other USDOT-funded contracts. By the end of the course, you will have an actionable business development plan in place and a solid understanding of course topics - including strategic planning, construction and managerial accounting, prime contractor marketing, estimating and bidding and project management. 

What to Expect:

  • Peer learning with a group of construction contractors in the transportation industry
  • One-on-one coaching from course facilitators and consultants
  • Eight three-hour weekly workshops including small group exercises and guest speakers (including CDOT Central 70 puruit team members)
  • Introduction to industry mentors and opportunities to connect with prime contractors, community leaders, government agencies and other resources
  • Creation or update of your business development plan 


  • Free registration to workshops (excluding QuickBooks I) at the Denver Metro SBDC while enrolled
  • One year subscription to the Bid Express Small Business Network, valued at $2,200
  • Automatic eligibility and entry into the upcoming CDOT Mentor-Protege program
  • Entry into the Colorado SBDC Annual Business Plan Competition with cash prizes for top awardees
  • Invitation to an exclusive Meet & Greet event for LE graduates with the CDOT Central 70 Project Developer (fall 2017)


Firms may apply for scholarships to cover the full cost of the program. A 50% scholarship is offered to eligible businesses upon registration. A 50% tuition reimbursement will be provided to firms who graduate and attend at least 7 our of 8 sessions, actively participate in course discussion and complete assignments, submit a business development plan and complete eight to ten hours of consulting.

  • Standard Program Fee -$645.00
  • SPECIAL (Half price before March 15th) - $322.50 and $0 if you complete the program
  • Additional Employees - $375.00
  • Retake Fee - $275.00


  • In business 2+ years (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Minimum of $100,000 in annual sales
  • May have employees or may be working alone but planning to hire
  • Able to provide a balance sheet, statement of cash flow, income statement and quarterly profit and loss statements
  • Eager to learn and committed to growing your business
  • Certified DBE/ESB/MWBE/SBE companies preferred
