CDOT and Kraemer North America Tackle US 36 Emergency Repairs

13-Aug-2019 to 19-Nov-2019

When a portion of US 36 began to crack in early July, CDOT and its contracted partners worked around-the-clock to shift traffic and maintain two travel lanes in each direction. It took less than a week for CDOT to contract with Kraemer North America using a streamlined competitive contracting mechanism called Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC). CDOT designers also teamed up with David Evans and RJ Engineering to prepare the final design for rebuilding. To date, the team has made significant progress and has removed 75% of the eastbound US 36 wall working top to bottom. Once the wall is safely removed, crews will begin to remove four feet of dirt below the wall and replace it with better material and then rebuild the wall and solidify the structure. The site is being monitored at all times to ensure continued safety for the traveling public. Subcontractors may be able to help with ongoing repairs and should contact Kraemer North America or call the project hotline at 303-327-4028 or email
