CDOT Awarded $60.7 Million from US DOT for Vail Pass Improvements

CDOT will receive a $60.7 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make improvements to Vail Pass on I-70 between mile post 180 and 190. The funding will be used for:
  • Constructing an eastbound auxiliary lane
  • Reconstructing the eastbound bridge over Polk Creek
  • Shoulder widening
  • Westbound curve modifications
  • Reconstruction of a truck ramp
  • Dynamic message signs
  • A variable speed limit system
  • Automated anti-icing technologies
Work on the I-70 West Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes project is expected to begin in 2021. This grant will provide nearly half of the $140 million total project cost.
