Networking & Events

If you're looking to grow your business by contracting with CDOT or other local transportation agencies, networking is the name of the game. Don't expect to blindly respond to RFQ's and have it result in a contract. Successful small businesses actively network and build relationships with agency representatives, industry stakeholders, and prime contractors.

This isn't to say you shouldn't respond to an request for quote from a prime, but make sure you have a personal touch point. Even if you respond with a "no bid," do it with a phone call, letter, or email. These prime contractors are your prospective customers so make sure they know who you are and what you do beyond the numbers on a bid.

What Works?

As the saying goes, "persistence pays" and the more people you meet and follow up with at industry events, the more likely it is for you to land a contract or subcontract. Connect2DOT and our industry partners host numerous events across the state and throughout the year. These include:

  • Prime contractor meet-and-greet sessions
  • Mandatory pre-bid small business networking
  • Reverse trade fairs
  • Small business forums
  • Industry "hot topic" events
